A doorway is a portal, a passageway from where we are to another place, one into which we wish to go or must go or are compelled to go.
We pass through them, by them, indeed we see them so often that we rarely pay attention to them anymore…
Thus, when we come across a truly unique and extraordinary one we do not see it for what it truly is…
As with many of the images I have recorded this one, too, has a story, though at the time I did not fully realize what that story was.
I came across this image while returning from a trip to the Bahamas. On this particular trip I was accompanied by a good friend who shared the experience with me.
We were approaching the South Carolina coastline and considering the prospect of having to pass through a line of storms when, as often happens, an opening between storms appeared. We approached this gap and emerged into an expanse that gave us a perspective that few people ever experience. As we flew in the space between storm-clouds an opening appeared to allow a spectacular view of the setting sun. I commented to my friend that it was as if the Gates of Heaven had opened up to welcome someone.
Shortly after we returned to Columbia I received a call from another friend of mine telling me that his father-in-law had just passed away. I told him that I was sorry to hear this and asked when it had happened. He said that “Tom” had passed away that afternoon. He was in Charleston when he died.
The light of realization suddenly came on and I felt, believed, that what my friend and I had seen was perhaps “Tom’s” doorway home appearing before us as we passed by.
We are allowed to see wondrous things as we go through this journey of experiences we call life if only we take the time to pause and pay attention to them.
As you look at this image, understand that this is not a special effect or altered image but what we saw as we passed through an opening in a line of rather serious storms on a southern summer day as the father of a good friend of mine was dying. It will give you ‘pause’…
Oh yes, one other thing. The Son’s Light is shining towards Charleston…
